Networking Equipment Hire FAQ

Temporary Event Networking – FAQs

Quick answers about hiring networking kit for events and temporary installs – switches, PoE, Wi-Fi coverage, VLANs, cabling and long-distance runs. For a tailored setup, contact us .

What networking equipment can I hire?

We hire core networking kit including managed gigabit switches, PoE switches, business routers, indoor/outdoor Wi-Fi access points, portable racks/PDUs, CAT6 drums and fibre media converters for long runs.

Why should I use a managed switch for an event?

Managed switches help keep the site stable by separating traffic (VLANs), reducing broadcast noise, and giving better control for production, POS, CCTV and guest Wi-Fi. They’re ideal when reliability matters.

What is PoE and when do I need a PoE switch?

PoE (Power over Ethernet) sends power and data down a single network cable – perfect for powering Wi-Fi access points, cameras and VoIP devices without separate mains at each location.

How do I plan Wi-Fi coverage for an event site?

Coverage depends on site size, structures, user density and where you need connectivity (production, traders, compounds). Outdoor access points and smart placement help reduce dead spots. Share a site plan and we’ll recommend an approach.

Do I need VLANs for POS, production and guest Wi-Fi?

It’s strongly recommended. VLANs separate traffic so guest devices don’t affect payment, CCTV or show-critical systems. A managed switch (and correctly configured router/APs) makes this straightforward.

How far can I run CAT6 — and when should I use fibre?

CAT6 is great for most short-to-medium site runs, but very long distances (or electrically noisy environments) are often better over fibre. Fibre media converters let you extend the network reliably between compounds or stages.

How do I get a price for networking equipment hire?

Pricing depends on dates, quantities, delivery/support and how complex the setup is (e.g. VLANs, multiple APs, long runs). Send your requirements via our contact form and we’ll come back with a tailored quote.
